Adjournment of Meetings
Adjournment can refer to the conclusion of a meeting or the temporary suspension of a meeting.
When a meeting has ended and no questions are pending, the president will normally move to adjourn the meeting. Another board member will second the motion and it will then be voted upon by the board. The minutes will then reflect the time the meeting ended or was adjourned.
When a meeting is not completed, as when a quorum has not been attained in connection with an election, the meeting will be adjourned or suspended to another date and time that is announced at the meeting, posted, and communicated to the membership in writing. Again, the president will normally move to adjourn the meeting and another board member will second the motion which is then voted upon.
The subject of adjourned meetings are always addressed in the association's bylaws which should be consulted by the board and the inspector of elections, if the adjournment takes place in connection with a secret ballot election.
